Simply insert the included AAA batteries, and power on by pressing the large button labeled "Start". You will hear a brief audio tone. Then hold the thermometer approximately 1 inch away from the forehead (or whichever surface you want to measure) and hold there for a few seconds until you hear another audio tone indicating the measurement has been taken.
