Listerine
Listerine Mouthwash
Listerine is a mouthwash brand that makes a wide variety of formulas to promote healthy teeth and gums and fresh breath. Listerine Mouthwash includes some alcohol-free versions as well as mouthwashes for those with sensitive teeth and gums. Original Listerine Mint mouthwash produces a cooling tingling sensation when you use it, and it's the only nationally branded antimicrobial mouthwash to receive the ADA Seal of Acceptance for fighting plaque and gingivitis.
Listerine Total Care
Products in the Listerine Total Care collection have up to seven times greater fluoride uptake than other leading brands to promote stronger teeth. This mouthwash can help to prevent cavities, restore your teeth enamel, and build stronger teeth than just from brushing alone. Products include the original Total Care, Anti-Cavity Fluoride, Total Care Zero, and Stain Remover mouthwashes.
Why Does Listerine Burn?
Many Listerine products have antiseptic properties that kill bacteria and sanitize your mouth. Alcohol is one of several ingredients in some Listerine products, and menthol may also be included which can increase the burning or tingling sensation you may experience. Listerine may burn because your taste buds may be more sensitive to alcohol, which causes the tingling sensation to feel closer to a burning sensation.
How to Use Listerine
To use Listerine, pour about four teaspoons into a clean cup, then empty the cup into your mouth. Swish the mouthwash around for at least 30 seconds and gargle it in your mouth. Once the 30 seconds are over, you may spit the Listerine into the sink. Be sure to replace the cap tightly when you're finished using it.
Listerine Sensitivity
If you are sensitive to Listerine, look for the brand's formulas that do not contain any alcohol or menthol. A flavor-free, alcohol-free formula is best for those with Listerine sensitivity.
