Does The Softlips Company Test On Animals?

The parent company of Softlips®, Mentholatum®, does not appear to have a corporate statement about animal testing policies. The company also provides no animal-testing guidance on Softlips® Slim Sticks or the Oasis product lines. However, the company does specify that Softlips® Naturals are cruelty-free. That distinction means Softlips® Naturals are not tested on animals.

Are Softlips Products Vegan?

Vegan health and beauty products are made without animal-sourced ingredients. Many vegans also prefer sticking with cruelty-free products. Although the Softlips® brand features a natural product line, Softlips® Naturals are made with beeswax, an animal product. They're not vegan-friendly. Softlips® slim sticks are made without beeswax but contain several ingredients that could potentially be sourced from animals. When a company does not specify, it's hard to be sure.

What Are The Active Ingredients In Softlips?

The active ingredients you'll find in most Softlips® products are Dimethicone (2%), Octinoxate (7.5%), Octisalate (3%) and Oxybenzone (3%). Dimethicone is an emollient, an ingredient that helps your lips retain essential moisture. The rest are added to block or reflect the sun's harmful UV rays. Depending on the Softlips® product you select, your lip protectant could also contain Vitamin E, Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid or organic plant oils.

Do Softlips Products Expire?

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) does not currently regulate most cosmetics or personal care products unless they contain a chemical or compound classified as a drug. Sunscreens are regulated. The organization requires sunscreens to remain effective for a minimum of three years. Any date you might find on Softlips® protective lip balms would indicate how long the product is shelf-stable. But heat and sun exposure eventually degrade their protective properties. The company that makes Softlips® does not specify how long their products remain effective after opening. Consider replacing your Softlips® lip balm if you notice any changes in consistency or flavor.

Is The Softlips Brand Gluten Free?

Gluten is a natural substance often used in cosmetics as a thickening agent. The most common source of gluten is wheat. But you'll also find gluten in other grains, including barley and rye. Softlips® products are made without grains, meaning their products are naturally gluten-free. The company clearly states that Softlips® lip balms are gluten-free on product labels.
